Whitewater trip this weekend

The meeting last night was well attended. There was an excellent presentation by Chief Stacy Cole, Battalion Chief, Mountain Brook Fire Department about the fire service, it's history , state of the art, and career opportunities.

The cost for the white water trip to the Nantahalla (Scouts) is $60.00 and for the Ocoee (Venture Scouts) $127.00 as broken down in the July 12 newsletter. We are having to take the bus, Frank Tank, and four cars.

We will meet at the Hut at 5:00 PM Friday (23) and plan on returning between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM on Sunday (25).

He should have a water bottle to tie to the raft for drinking the time we are on the water and be prepared for rain or cool weather on the water (rain jacket).

Remember..the troop supplies soft non-carbonated drinks for lunch and supper. Do not purchase carbonated drinks or other soft drinks (ice tea) for meals as part of the menu (except milk and orange juice for breakfast. Same for deserts..the Troop provides these at lunch and at the Campfire Saturday night. The cost for groceries should be about $3.00 per person per meal.

He should bring a change of clothes and dry shoes to wear after the rafting as it is a two hour or more trip back to the camp site and there is no need to wear his river clothes and shoes on the way back.

Uniform on the way up and back is red troop t shirt, scout shorts, scout belt, and Scout socks on Friday and Sunday. We will wear river clothes from the camp site to the Nantahalla Outfitters rafting site on Saturday.

The uniform for all regular meetings and travel on the bus is always the red t shirt, official scout shorts, Scout socks, and Scout belt. Some of the boys are not wearing scout socks and should have two pair in case one gets wet and two red shirts in case one becomes soiled. the Socks can be purchased at the Scout Service Center..red shirts are available at the Hut. If he doesn't wear the complete uniform, he will have to stay on the bus when the Troop gets off for bathroom breaks or meals. Please help out with this.

Since this is an official Scout trip....If you are a adult leader, and we do not have a BSA Medical form, please have it filled out as much as possible to include a copy of your insurance card in case of an emergency.

The completing of Youth Protection requirement on Scouting.org is also required for all leaders.

For safety purposes, only Scouts who have passed the BSA swimming test are permitted on this trip. Non-swimming adults should also not consider attending as the trip requires swimming if suddenly dumped in the water from extreme turbulence found in most of the Ocoee and some of the Nanatahalla.

There will be a mandatory quartermaster night for all the Patrol and Troop Quartermasters this Thursday, July 22 starting at 6:30 PM to load our gear. if he is a quartermaster, please make sure he attends to help out. If he is not coming on the trip, and he is quartermaster, he still needs to be there to help.
